Had a heated argument with my brother today on the topic mind vs intellect. Actually, this whole thing started even when we was having our dinner at Shanmuga's restaurant in Bukit Tinggi, continued all the way in the car and right until midnight! Crazy right! Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this topic thou. It was very much blur to me at the beginning whereby only dad, mum and Sathiya was actually in the topic. While myself.. you know, with the food in front of me at the restaurant, i rather enjoy my delicious food.. right? haha..
Anyway, back to the topic.. Let me tell you how this topic actually started, mum asked us a question..
Question : What is the right thing to do, if you see a RM50 note while walking on the street?
Option :
A) Take the money
B) Give it to the police
C) Give it to the charity
Answers from us ;
Sathiya : Give to the police..
Me : Give to the police..
Prem : I will take it...
See.. Prem had a different answer.. He thinks taking the money is the right thing.. but i think it's not! It is not our money, so why should we take it.. and this question is what burst the heated debate between me and sathiya..
Sathiya says.. we have the right and wrong always in our choices and people are ignorant about what is the right and wrong thing to do.. so they do what they think is right..
For example, he said.. Why do the thief wants to steal.. coz he don't know what is right and what is wrong.. he thinks stealing is right.. he got no money so he rob!
Just like Spiderman 3.. for those who have watched it, you can connect this with that.. remember the sand man.. he steals money to pay for his daughter's hospital fee.. he thinks that is right coz he wants to safe his daughter's life.. nothing is more valuable to him then the love for his only daughter.. so, what is wrong, he actually thinks its right..
But on the other hand, i say.. people have right and wrong choice.. and that's why we have the intellect to think and take our choices based on what is right and wrong.. God gave us intellect to think.. but sometimes people just want an easy way out so they take the wrong path..
For example, let me take the easiest of all examples i gave to my brother!
Lets say, your teacher gave you a homework.. You have two choices, either to do it or not to do.. and you face the consequences.. right? So, of coz that individual know what is right and wrong..
Can you see.. how the argument goes? I am like trying to explain that every one have a choice.. either right or wrong.. and they know it.. It all goes back to what is the choice they take.. the one leading to the right path or the one leading to the wrong path.. but sathiya is trying to explain that, how can a person make a choice when he know the choice he is taking is wrong.. he is ignorant thats why he takes that choice..
Either ways i concluded that both are right.. there are two types of people ( in this case).. one who take the wrong path unknowingly and one who take the wrong path knowingly.. we fall in both this situations..
So i guess it is all up to that particular individual right..
hmmmm..
Anyway, i have to stop now.. My eyes are getting heavier..

Agreed on the last sentence: one who take the wrong path unknowingly and one who take the wrong path knowingly..
Again, situation plays a role here. Even wen one is brought up wif good values and knowledge of wat is good and bad, one tends to choose the other bad way.
Reason? I have seen many saying that 'Oh, god neva punishes bad guys. U can see all those bad guys, who does immoral things, are still happily living in castle and driving huge expensive cars. So, they think that following WRONG path is not WRONG!
You see? They tend to think LUXURIOUS LIFE = HAPPINESS. But that is like totally wrong!
Happiness is achieved by having balanced life (Career+Finance+Health+Peace+Family+Spiritual. So usually when one outweighs the other, there comes STRESS, depression etc.
Example, a person giving too much importance to WEALTH that he ignores the others. U noe what will happen. Or, one who concentrate WAY TOO MUCH spirituality, till he forgets bout his family, he thinks he does not need to EARN etc. Its not gonna bring happiness too, ryte?
Cmg back to the topic of discussion; balanced mind and intellect is the key. And I think parents should stop putting everything on a price tag, and start teaching their children the importance of having a happy (balanced) life instead.
Eg; wen a child says, 'But mom, the bad guys have cars and big houses!'. U must learn to say 'Yes, but thats the only thing they have. And that does NOT mean that they are happy'.
well bagya! in my opinion, its always heart over mind...i'd go for the emotional aspect any time of the day..some people take the wrong path because they didn't know what they were doing..they thought it was right till someone proves them to be wrong...either way my dear, life is to be lived! U gt oni one life right so y bother with wats rite n wats wrong...go with what ur heart says!
Anu : yes kamitee.. I truly agree with every single thing you said.. everyone should understand that money is not going to buy happiness.. There is no use of cheating, taking bribe and stealing..
Of coz if we see generally almost all the people in the ministry dept are very much aware that they are going in the wrong path (taking bribe n stuf).. So this means they don't use intellect right.. they just do what they feel like doing, which of coz falls back that they are using their mind and not intellect..
reva : woow! I suppose you have a very much different perspective than people normally do.. but reva heart desires so many things, you have to fall back to your intellect to see whether what you doing is right or wrong..
for example : You go for shopping, you see something which you really like, thats when your heart says buy it.. and your intellect says no! You don't need that, its just a waste.. intellect makes the right choice..

the heart craves for things which wud actually make people feel better! wats the point of saying no to the shoes(wic i wud never do, btw) for the sake of regretting it later on? Darl, life is all about making choices yes, but it doesn't need to be the right choice. Because what that is right may never make you happy and what that is not right might make you happy! Life is about being happy. And thats the point GOD gave us a life!
