If I ask most of the people out there, what is diwali? I would normally get the same usual answer, the death of Narakasura, the bad guy! Or another would be, the return for Lord Rama after 14 years in the jungle. So let's put a side all this traditional stories. I don't deny all this stories are important but at the same time, there should be an inner meaning for why we celebrate this auspicious festival of light and just not for the sake of celebrating.
For me, diwali is not just a day we celebrate of the return of Lord Rama or the death of Narakasura. Diwali posses a deeper meaning into my life. It's a day for all of us to gather. All our family, relatives, uncles, aunties, cousins. Every single person come together to one house and have fun. Not every family get the chance to gather every few months once so this would be a time to celebrate and meet each other and just pour happiness in the home.
This day also resembles, the good over evil or I shall shall light over darkness. This is a day which rings in our head so that we throw out all the darkness in our heart, ego, jealousy, greed, selfishness, anger and all those negative qualities in you. And bring in the brightness, the positive qualities which a disciple of lord should inculcate, satya (truth), dharma (righteousness) , shanthi (peace) , prema (love) and ahimsa (non-violence). As time pass people tend to forget and need to be motivated always, and that's why we have Diwali celebrated every year. So, that every year on the diwali morning, when we offer our humble prayers to the divine lord we strive to change. We change for the betterment.
Happy Diwali everyone, share the happiness and joy to all around you. Make this world a home for love.
